“She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah” – Leonard Cohen and as heard sung in my head by Jeff Buckley
That kitchen chair over there
has known love of all sorts.
The quiet cookie finger love
of a child with glowing stomach
love that only a mother
can give.
The raw and noisy primordial love
between two lovers in heat
who know no boundaries between
chair, wall, and floor.
The brutal cat scratch love
because they love this chair
that reminds them of the good
smells in bowls and whiskers.

/ April 19, 2017Oh, yes. There are so many kinds of love. I adore the song “Hallelujah,” so of course I am hearing its tune as I read this. So clever.

/ April 19, 2017This is lovely!❤️ I love the idea of a kitchen chair symbolizing love. You have portrayed so many different images! Especially love; “The quiet cookie finger love of a child with glowing stomach love that only a mother can give” sigh.. so wonderfully evocative. Thank you so much for participating.❤️
Lots of love,
Sanaa

/ April 19, 2017And the love of all your readers, getting to know the history of this chair! I thank you in particular for the wonderful last verse, which completely reframes for me those old (and indeed brutal) scratches on the leg of one of my dining-room chairs. 🙂

/ April 19, 2017I like a kitchen chair for love. So much love in a kitchen and many memories made there too, sometimes over coffee. Great job! Hugz, Rasz
